Sportsnet Bets Big on Cabbie

Sportsnet

– Fan-favourite broadcaster to lead sports betting content at Canada’s #1 sports media brand –

September 14, 2021 – One of the nation’s most respected sports media personalities is coming home to Canada as Sportsnet welcomes Cabral Richards to its roster. Better known as Cabbie, the veteran sports media personality – widely revered for his unique interviewing style and multiplatform talent – joins Sportsnet as Executive Producer of Sports Betting Content.

“There are few media personalities anywhere who have achieved instant first-name recognition and who resonate strongly with a diverse set of audiences. Cabbie’s style, enthusiasm, and originality are unrivaled, and his addition to Sportsnet is another exciting step in our expansion into sports betting and continued content innovation,” said Andrew Sutherland, VP of Original Content at Sportsnet.

For most of Cabbie’s career, the non-traditional sports broadcaster amplified the personalities of A-list professional athletes using a light-hearted approach. Starting with his renowned Cabbie on the Street segments, using disarming mechanisms and humour, Cabbie was able to unlock the personalities of famous and mercurial stars like no other. Interactions with the likes of Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkin, and David Ortiz raised his profile and helped to change perceptions of these incredible competitors. An entertainer at heart, his unorthodox and animated style have endeared him to fans, athletes, and celebrities alike, while his ability to transition seamlessly across platforms and genres as both a host and producer make him one of the most sought-after personalities in the business. Most recently, Cabbie could be found co-hosting Bleacher Report’s B/R Betting Show, and will bring that same expertise and flair to Sportsnet’s betting content.

“Having an opportunity to come home and help build the betting portfolio, social experiences, and ride the highs and lows of wagering with Sportsnet has me hyped like hitting a 15 leg parlay!” said Cabbie. “Working with Bleacher Report Betting in Las Vegas was an invaluable experience, one that I will cherish. But now I’m excited to return to Sportsnet and reunite with my good friends Tim Micallef, Donnovan Bennett, and a whole host of other really smart people who have us in a great position to put Sportsnet on the board in this space. I can’t wait to start engaging with the betting community, which has been thriving under wraps in Canada for decades. Let’s get it!”

In addition to leading sports betting content, fans can expect Cabbie to impact all of Sportsnet’s properties and platforms with his imaginative approach to content production and delivery. More details around Sportsnet’s content plans for sports betting will be revealed as legalization of single-event wagering rolls out in provinces across Canada.
